FITTING INSTRUCTION

WARNING
  • Accessories which are not properly fitted can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to fitting. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.
NOTE
  • The SVA-D towbar wiring harness (LR121097) is not included in the detachable towbar kit. This part must be ordered separately if the detachable towbar is being installed to a SVA-D variant of the vehicle.

Fitting Instruction

Towbar module VPLYT0218 necessary if the vehicle does not have deployable side steps fitted.

Remove the loadspace floor panel.

NOTE
  • This step only applies to vehicles not equipped with a spare wheel.

Remove foam block.

NOTE
  • This step only applies to vehicles equipped with a spare wheel.

Remove the spare wheel.

  1. Release the spare wheel by turning the retainer anticlockwise and then remove the spare wheel.
  2. Remove the foam tool kit assembly and outer foam block.

Remove the loadspace left trim panel. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Loadspace Side Trim Panel (501-05)

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Startup Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01)

NOTE
  • This step is only applicable to SVA-D vehicles.

Disconnect the active exhaust electrical connector and release the 2 active exhaust wiring harness clips.

Remove and discard the tow eye cover.

Remove the rear bumper. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Rear Bumper (501-19)

Remove and discard the rear armature and fixings. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Rear Armature (501-19)

NOTE
  • This step is only applicable to SVA-D vehicles.

Remove and discard the active exhaust wiring harness.

  1. Release the 5 wiring harness fixings.
  2. Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
  3. Release the grommet and then feed the wiring harness through.

Lower the exhaust rear section. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Rear Silencer (309-00A)

Remove the rear silencer heat shields.

  • This step is not required for SVA-D vehicles.

Remove the spare wheel well grommet.

Fit the towbar module (G) if the vehicle does not have deployable side steps fitted.

Install the towbar control module.

  • Torque: 6 Nm

  • This step is not applicable to SVA-D vehicles.

Feed the wiring harness (B) out of the battery well grommet hole.

  • This step is only applicable to SVA-D vehicles.

Feed the wiring harness (B) (LR121097) out of the battery well grommet hole.

Clip in the wiring harness as shown in the illustration.

  • Ground point torque: 10 Nm

  • This step is only applicable to SVA-D vehicles.

Connect the wiring harness (B) to the vehicle body wiring harness as illustrated.

Connect the wiring harness (B) to the towbar control module and the vehicle body wiring harness.

Clip the wiring harness (B) to the towbar control module as illustrated.

Insert both of the towbar brackets.

CAUTION
  • Install, but do not fully tighten the 8 bolts.

Install the 8 bolts (F).

  • To aid installation of part (A), position the wiring harness as illustrated.

Position the wiring harness.

  • This step requires the aid of another technician.
CAUTION
  • Install, but do not fully tighten the 8 bolts.

Install the towbar armature and the 8 bolts (E).

Connect the harness to the towbar armature plugs.

Secure the harness as illustrated.

Tighten the bolts (E) in the indicated sequence.

  • Torque: 170 Nm

Tighten the bolts (E) in the indicated sequence.

  • Torque: 170 Nm

Tighten the bolts (F) in the indicated sequence on both sides of the vehicle.

  • Torque: Stage 1: 100 Nm, Stage 2: 240° +/- 5°

Install the rear silencer heat shields.

Install the active exhaust part of the wiring harness (B).

  1. Install the 5 wiring harness fixings.
  2. Connect the 2 electrical connectors.

Install the rear bumper. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Rear Bumper (501-19)

Install the loadspace left trim panel. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Loadspace Side Trim Panel (501-05)

Install the tow eye cover.

Remove protective cover (M) before fitting the tow ball.

WARNING
  • The detachable tow ball is very heavy. Extreme care must be taken when handling it. Make sure that no part of the body is below the tow ball when fitting and removing it. Use both hands to maintain secure handling of the tow ball. Failure to do so can potentially result in personal injury.
NOTE
  • Note the orientation of the protective cover to enable reinstalling.
NOTE
  • If the handwheel aperture display is black, push and turn the handwheel clockwise until red displays.

To fit the detachable tow ball, proceed as follows:

  1. Pull the protective cover downward to remove it from the tow bar. Store the protective cover in a safe place.
  2. Make sure that the handwheel aperture display is red, to confirm that the handwheel is in the unlocked position.
  3. Using both hands, push the detachable tow ball into the tow bar until an audible click is heard to confirm correct fitting.
  4. The handwheel automatically rotates and displays green in the aperture to confirm correct fitting of the tow ball.
  5. Gently pull the protective cover to release it from the key slot.
  6. Insert the key. Turn the key clockwise to lock the detachable tow ball's handwheel. Remove the key. Install the protective cover. Store the key in a safe place.

WARNING
  • Never leave the detachable tow ball loose in the vehicle. In the event of heavy braking or an accident, it can potentially become a projectile, which can result in serious injury or death.
  • The detachable tow ball is very heavy. Extreme care must be taken when handling it. Make sure that no part of the body is below the tow ball when fitting and removing it. Use both hands to maintain secure handling of the tow ball. Failure to do so can potentially result in personal injury.

To remove the detachable tow ball, proceed as follows:

  1. Gently pull the protective cover to release it from the key slot.
  2. Insert the key. Turn the key counter-clockwise to unlock the detachable tow ball's handwheel.
  3. Remove the key. Store the key in a safe place.
  4. Support the detachable tow ball. Push and turn the handwheel clockwise to release the detachable tow ball from the tow bar.
  5. Install the protective cover to the vehicle's tow bar mounting.
  6. Install the protective cover to the detachable tow ball's key slot.

Install the cap (K) on the tow ball when not in use.

NOTE
  • The type of foam storage block will vary depending on the vehicle specification.

After removal, install the tow ball in the vehicle luggage floor foam storage block.

Connect the startup battery. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Startup Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables)

Install the spare wheel and the floor trim.

Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, configure the towbar module.
