FITTING INSTRUCTION

  • Protect the vehicle paintwork and trim during the installation.
NOTE
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.

Disconnect the 12V battery.

  • Log into TOPIX and enter your 17 character 'Vehicle Identification Number' and navigate to 'Workshop Manual' section '414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information / 12V System Disconnect and Connect'.

Remove the left side loadspace trim panel.

  • Log into TOPIX and enter your 17 character 'Vehicle Identification Number' and navigate to 'Workshop Manual' section '501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation / Left Loadspace Trim Panel'.

NOTE
  • Retain 2 fixing.

Remove 4 fixings and move aside the amplifier module bracket to gain access behind.

CAUTION
  • Startup battery must not be connected before starting this step.

Remove the 12V socket 'brown' electrical connector.

  • Using a suitable tool remove the small connector cover from the main connector.
  • Using a suitable tool release the 2 electrical pins from the connector.

NOTE
  • The electrical connector (C2) will be used again in the next step.

Carefully release and retain the gray colored electrical connector (C2) from the electrical connector (C1).

CAUTION
  • Startup battery must not be connected before starting this step.
  • The correct wire colors must go in the correct connector pin. Color codes are shown on the 2 wires in the graphic.

Connect connector (C2) to the vehicle harness.

  • Using a suitable tool move (Do Not Remove) the orange colored clip out from the connector (C2).
  • Install the 2 cables from 'Step 4' into the new connector (C2). Inspect cables are fully installed correctly by checking none of the metal pins is still showing from the back of the connector.
  • When the pins are correctly in position fasten by pushing the orange colored clip back into the connector.

Install harness (C).

  • Connect connector (C2) back into (C1).
  • Position harness (C) as illustrated and fasten with 3 cable ties (N).

Move the amplifier module bracket back into position and tighten with the 2 fixings retained in 'Step 3'.

  • Torque: 10Nm

CAUTION
  • Install, but do not fully tighten the 2 nuts (H).

Install the bracket leg (B) to the integrated air compressor bracket (A) using 2 fixings (M) and small metal 2 washers (K).

NOTE
  • This step is only applicable to Defender 90 vehicles. Some parts not shown for clarity.

Remove and retain fixing (S3).

NOTE
  • This step is only applicable to Defender 90 vehicles.
  • Bracket must be installed at 90 degrees and not twisted.

Using existing fixing (S3) install bracket (F) where illustrated. Torque: 10Nm

Install the integrated air compressor bracket (A).

  1. Attach large washer (J) to the 2 vehicle studs before installing the integrated air compressor bracket (A).
  2. Slide the integrated air compressor bracket (A) into place and install with 2 small metal washers (K) and 2 fixings (M). Torque: 10Nm

Install the bracket leg (M).

  1. Slide the bracket leg (B) that is part of the bracket (A) downward so the bracket leg locates onto the arrowed vehicle stud.
  2. Tighten 2 fixings. Torque: 10Nm

NOTE
  • This step is ONLY applicable to Defender 110.

Install top right of bracket (A) to existing antenna bracket with fixing (H), small metal washer (J) and fixing (M).

  • Torque: 10Nm

NOTE
  • This step is ONLY applicable to Defender 90.

Install top right of bracket (F) to already installed bracket (A) with 2 fixings (H) and 2 small metal washers (K).

  • Torque: 10Nm

Feed the connector (C4) through the bracket.

Connect link harness to air compressor cover to activate the display.

  • Connect battery.
  • Connect link harness connector(C4) to air compressor.
  • Inspect the display works.
  • Disconnect link harness connector (C4) from the air compressor.
  • Disconnect battery.
  • .

NOTE
  • Both Defender 90 and 110 use the same measurements.

Use suitable tooling to measure and mark the 4 drilling locations.

WARNING
  • Wear suitable PPE.

Drill 4 holes at the marked locations.

  1. Is 35mm drill bit.
  2. Are 22mm drill bit.

NOTE
  • Remember to install connector (C3) to the power outlet when installing the side trim.

Install the left side loadspace trim panel and carefully feed the electrical connector (C4) through the hole.

  • Log into TOPIX and enter your 17 character 'Vehicle Identification Number' and navigate to 'Workshop Manual' section '501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation / Left Loadspace Trim Panel'.

Prepare the 3 vehicle studs.

  • Install 3 spacers (I).
  • Install 3 foam washers (L).

NOTE
  • Install, but do not fully tighten fixings.

Install the compressor assembly (E) onto the 3 studs.

  • Feed the electrical link lead (C4) through the air compressor assembly.
  • Install 3 foam washers (L).
  • Install 3 large metal washers (J).
  • Install but do not fully tighten the fixings (F).

The air compressor must be correctly positioned against the loadspace left trim panel as illustrated. There must be an equal gap between all edges of the air compressor and the bezel of the loadspace left trim panel. Then tighten the 3 fixings (M) to install the compressor assembly (E). Torque: 10Nm

NOTE
  • Listen for an audible click when connectors are attach correctly.

Install the integrated air compressor cover (D).

  • Connect the 3 electrical connectors.
  • Inspect the connections are fastened correctly.
  • Install the air compressor cover by engaging the 6 retaining clips.

Connect the 12V battery.

  • Log into TOPIX and enter your 17 character 'Vehicle Identification Number' and navigate to 'Workshop Manual' section '414-00 Battery and Charging System - General Information / 12V System Disconnect and Connect'.

With the engine running inspect that the integrated air compressor is operating correctly. Install the integrated air compressor air line (G) and follow commands below on operation. Remove the integrated air compressor air line (G) after use.

Update integrated air compressor software. This is free to view in TOPIX.

  • Log into TOPIX and enter your 17 character 'Vehicle Identification Number' and navigate to 'Workshop Manual' section '102-02 integrated air compressor software update'.

NOTE
  • Make sure vehicle engine is running before operating the air compressor.

Test the integrated air compressor to make sure it is working correctly before final installation. Extra diagnoses and testing information can found free to view in TOPIX.

  1. On Mode: 1 short press.
  2. Increase set pressure: Rotation clockwise.
  3. Decrease set pressure: Rotation counter-clockwise.
  4. Set value (stop flashing): 1 short press when pressure value is flashing.
  5. Automatic inflation/deflation mode (start): When the pressure value is set and the air hose is connected to the tire, the inflation/deflation automatically starts after 5 sec. This feature also starts the inflation/deflation automatically when the air hose is moved from one tire to another.
  6. Manual inflation/deflation mode (start/stop): 1 short press when pressure value is not flashing.
  7. Measure Mode 1 long press (3 sec).
  8. Change unit (Psi/Bar): 3 short press.
  9. Off mode:1 long press (5 sec). Unit will automatically switch off after 5 minutes of inactivity.
