FITTING INSTRUCTION

WARNING
  • Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to installation. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.
NOTE
  • The towbar wiring harness (LR124162), tow eye cover (LR114849) or (LR117424) and towbar control module (VPLYT0218) are not included in the detachable towbar kit (VPLZT0255). These parts must be ordered separately.
  • The variant of the tow eye cover that must be ordered is dependent on the type of rear bumper installed on the vehicle. if the vehicle has a rear standard bumper then order tow eye cover (LR114849). If the vehicle has a rear dynamic bumper then order tow eye cover (LR117424).
  • If the vehicle has a rear dynamic bumper then the tow eye cover (LR117424) must be painted to match the vehicle body color. The tow eye cover (LR117424) is supplied with only primer applied.

REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS

Disconnect the startup battery ground cable. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Startup Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-00)

Remove the parcel shelf from the vehicle.

Remove the loadspace floor trim.

NOTE
  • Not all vehicles will have a spare wheel as illustrated.

Release the spare wheel by turning the arrowed retainer counter clockwise and then remove the spare wheel.

Remove the bumper trim. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Left Loadspace Side Trim Panel (501-05)

Remove the loadspace left trim panel. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Left Loadspace Side Trim Panel (501-05)

NOTE
  • This step is only required if the vehicle has the tire repair kit stowage compartment installed, as illustrated. This step is not required if the vehicle has a spare wheel installed.

Release the loadspace right trim panel to allow access to the foam block and stowage compartment. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Right Loadspace Side Trim Panel (501-05)

Remove the foam blocks as illustrated.

  • If the vehicle has a spare wheel installed then only the foam block on the left side of the vehicle will need to be removed.
  • If the tire repair kit stowage compartment is installed then the foam blocks will need to be removed from both sides of the vehicle.

Remove the foam block or tire repair kit stowage compartment from the spare wheel well as illustrated.

CAUTION
  • Retain the 6 tow eye cover fixings.

Remove the rear valance.

Remove and retain the 2 illustrated brackets and fixings.

Remove and discard the rear armature and fixings. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Rear Armature (501-19 Bumpers)

Fitting Instruction
1

Remove and discard the grommet and bezel located in the spare wheel well.

Remove the bracket from the towbar control module (D) as illustrated. Discard the bracket and the 2 bracket fixing nuts.

Locate the towbar control module (D) into the spare wheel well.

Secure the towbar control module (D) using the 2 nuts (E). Discard the 3 nuts that came with the towbar control module.

  • Torque 5 Nm

Place the towbar wiring harness (B) into the loadspace.

NOTE
  • To aid installation feed the large connector through the body first.

Follow sequence to complete step.

  1. Feed the towbar wiring harness (B) through the hole in the spare wheel well. Install the grommet, part of the towbar wiring harness, into the hole in the spare wheel well.
  2. Secure the towbar wiring harness to the spare wheel well at the 2 locations as illustrated.

Follow sequence to complete step.

  1. Attach the towbar wiring harness (B) to the ground point using the earth bolt (M) as illustrated.
  2. Secure the towbar wiring harness to the bracket as illustrated.
  3. Torque 10 Nm for earth bolt.

Connect the towbar wiring harness (B) to the towbar control module (D) as illustrated.

Connect the towbar wiring harness (B) to the vehicle body wiring harness as illustrated.

NOTE
  • Appearance of the exhaust rear section will vary depending on the vehicle variant.
  • Not all vehicle variants will be equipped with a Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank.

Lower the exhaust rear section. Remove the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank if the vehicle is equipped with a DEF tank.

Remove the tow eye anchor and the fixings.

Feed the section of the towbar wiring harness (B) along and beneath the rear bumper assembly support, using the clips to secure as illustrated.

Feed the sections of the towbar wiring harness (B) along and beneath the 2 ends of the rear bumper assembly support, using the clips to secure as illustrated.

WARNING
  • This step requires the assistance of another person.
NOTE
  • Tighten the bolts (C) hand tight at this stage.

Install the detachable towbar (A) to the vehicle and secure with the 4 bolts (C), as illustrated. There are 2 bolts located on each side of the towbar armature.

  • Tighten the bolts (F) hand tight at this stage.

Install the 8 bolts (F) as illustrated. There are 4 bolts on each side of the towbar armature.

Connect the towbar wiring harness (B) to the socket at the end of the towbar armature as illustrated.

Connect the towbar wiring harness (B) to the socket at the end of the towbar armature as illustrated.

NOTE
  • After completing steps 1 and 2 the Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) module may need to be re-configured for the touch screen functionality using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment.

 

  1. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, update the towbar control module to the latest software.
  2. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, configure the detachable towbar electrics.

Check the operation of the trailer lamps and the vehicle lamps.

  • Torque 170 Nm

Tighten the 4 bolts (C).

  • Torque 170 Nm

  • Observe bolt tightening sequence on both sides of the vehicle.
  • Torque 100 Nm +240° +/-5°

Tighten the bolts (F) in the sequence shown. There are 4 bolts on each side of the towbar armature.

  • Torque 100 Nm +240° +/-5°

Install the 2 brackets as illustrated.

Raise the exhaust rear section. Install the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank if the vehicle is equipped with a DEF tank.

  • Complete step if the rear standard bumper is installed.

Install the tow eye cover (G) (LR114849) using the fixings retained in removal step 11.

NOTE
  • Complete step if the rear dynamic bumper is installed.
  • Rear dynamic bumper has grilles at 2 arrowed locations.

Prepare and install the tow eye cover (N) (LR117424).

  1. Paint the tow eye cover (N) to match the vehicle body color. The tow eye cover (N) is supplied with only primer applied.
  2. Install the tow eye cover (N) (LR117424) using the fixings retained in removal step 11.

Remove the dirt cap (H) before installing the towbar arm.

NOTE
  • The appearance of the foam block will vary depending on the vehicle specification.

When the detachable towbar is being used, install the dirt cap (H) to the foam block as illustrated.

Install the towbar arm in the sequence as illustrated. Use the key (L) to lock the towbar arm. The towbar arm has an indicator window which displays 3 different colors to show the system state.

  • Red: Towbar arm is unlocked.
  • Green: Towbar arm is locked and system is ready to use.
  • Orange: System is not safe to be used.

Install the cap (K) onto the towbar arm when not in use.

Connect the startup battery ground cable. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Startup Battery Disconnect and Connect (414-00)

Install the foam block or tire repair kit stowage compartment to the spare wheel well as illustrated.

Install the foam blocks as illustrated.

  • If the vehicle has a spare wheel then install the foam block on the left side of the vehicle.
  • Install the foam blocks to both sides of the vehicle if the vehicles has a tire repair kit stowage compartment.

Install the bumper trim. For additional information, please refer to the official Workshop Manual. Left Loadspace Side Trim Panel (501-05)

  • Not all vehicles will have a spare wheel as illustrated.

Install the spare wheel into the spare wheel well and then secure by turning the arrowed retainer clockwise.

Store the tow eye (P) in the foam block or the tire repair kit stowage compartment when not being used.

Install the loadspace floor trim.

Install the parcel shelf into the vehicle if required.

After the towbar arm is removed it should be installed in the spare wheel foam block or the tire repair kit stowage compartment.

Install the dirt cap (H) to the detachable towbar when the towbar arm has been removed.
