FITTING INSTRUCTION

WARNING
  • Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to installation. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.
CAUTION
  • There are 3 variants of the roof rail. There are 2 for 90 wheelbase models and 1 for 110 wheelbase models. Please read instructions to make sure you order the correct version.
NOTE
  • This procedure contains illustrations for left side components, right side components are similar.
  • This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
NOTE
  • There are 2 types of Roof Rails (VPLER0176 and VPLER0190) for 90 wheelbase, see illustration (E265363) showing the difference between the 2 versions. Installation to the vehicle is the same for both 90 wheelbase Roof Rails.
  • When VPLER0190 Roof Rails are installed in conjunction with the Roof Cross Bars and Deployable Roof Ladder, the Roof Rails allow the Roof Cross Bars to be installed and removed without removing the Deployable Ladder first.
  • VPLER0190 Roof Rails are recommended to be used in conjunction with the Deployable Roof Ladder on the 90 wheelbase, to be able to use all removable Roof Rail mounted accessories as intended.
  • When VPLER0176 Roof Rails are installed in conjunction with the Deployable Roof Ladder then the Roof Cross Bars cannot be removed without removing the Deployable Roof Ladder first (if installed).
  • VPLER0176 Roof Rails should only be used with the Expedition Roof Rack, Side Mounted Gear Carrier and Roof Cross bars.
  • The Deployable Roof Ladder and Side Mounted Gear Carrier are not intended to be removed when installed.
REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS

Follow the appropriate removal steps.

  • Complete removal steps 2 to 5 if the roof rails are being installed to vehicles with 90 wheelbase.
  • Complete removal steps 6 to 9 if the roof rails are being installed to vehicles with 110 wheelbase.

CAUTION
  • Take care to avoid damage to the body paint.
NOTE
  • Complete step only for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Remove (x12) ditch finisher fixing covers.

  • Use a suitable plastic trim tool to remove (x12) ditch finisher fixing covers and discard.

  • Complete step only for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Remove the ditch finisher fixings.

  1. Remove (x10) M8 fixings and discard.
  2. Remove (x2) M6 fixings and keep as these will need to be reinstalled later.

Remove (x4) ditch finishers and discard.

Remove the (x6) fixings.

  1. Remove the (x6) M8 fixings and discard.

Remove (x14) ditch finisher fixing covers.

  • Use a suitable plastic trim tool to remove (x14) ditch finisher fixing covers and discard.

Remove the ditch finisher fixings.

  1. Remove (x12) M8 fixings and discard.
  2. Remove (x2) M6 fixings and keep as these will need to be reinstalled later.

Remove (x4) ditch finishers and discard.

Remove (x4) fixings.

  1. Remove (x4) M8 fixings and discard.
Fitting Instruction

NOTE
  • Illustrations show vehicles with 110 wheelbase. The process is the same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Instructions show the process for installing the roof rails to vehicles with 110 wheelbase. The process for installing the roof rails to vehicles with 90 wheelbase is the same.

Reinstall (x2) M6 fixings that were removed in removal steps 3 or 7.

  • Tighten fixings. 8Nm

CAUTION
  • Make sure the brackets are installed in the correct orientation as identified by the arrow on the bracket.
  • Install and tighten the bolts in the indicated sequence.
NOTE
  • Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Install the 2 brackets (B) using the 4 bolts (D) as illustrated.

  1. Position the bracket (B) on the vehicle roof in the correct orientation and make sure the fixing holes align. The brackets are marked with an arrow indicating the front of the vehicle.
  2. Install, but do not fully tighten the 2 bolts.
  3. Torque: 16 Nm
  4. Torque: 32 Nm
  5. Torque: 32 Nm

NOTE
  • This step requires the aid of another person.
  • Make sure the orientation of the roof rail is correct. The roof rail end cap, shown arrowed in the illustration, must be at the front of the vehicle.
  • Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Position the roof rail on the left side of the vehicle.

  1. Make sure the seal, that is part of the roof rail, is positioned correctly at both ends of the roof rail and along the length of the roof rail.
  2. The seal will be positioned above the alpine glass as illustrated.

Install, but do not fully tighten the 6 bolts (D) in the indicated sequence.

  • Torque the bolts in the indicated sequence.

Torque the 6 bolts (D) in the indicated sequence.

  1. Torque: 16 Nm
  2. Torque: 32 Nm
  3. Torque: 32 Nm
  4. Torque: 32 Nm

Repeat steps 3 to 5 to install the roof rail on the right side of the vehicle.

  • Roof rail fixing covers are to be used only one time.
NOTE
  • Illustration shows vehicles with 110 wheelbase. Process is same for vehicles with 90 wheelbase.

Install the 6 roof rail fixing covers (C) to the roof rails as illustrated.

Push down on the roof rail end caps to secure to the roof rails.

  • Push the roof rail end cap fixings into the bracket at the front of the roof rail until an audible click is heard.

Make sure the roof rails are correctly installed on both sides of the vehicle.
