FITTING INSTRUCTION

WARNING
  • Accessories which are not correctly installed can be dangerous. Read the instructions carefully prior to ordering and installation to make sure this accessory is applicable to your variant of vehicle. Comply with instructions at all times. If in doubt, contact your nearest approved retailer.

Warnings / Cautions / Notes

WARNING
  • Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment when drilling.
CAUTION
  • Make sure to protect the paintwork.
  • Any claims due to improper torque assembly will be rejected.
  • Tightening the fixing studs above the specified torque level will result in joint failure / stud breaking.
  • Use the Jaguar Land Rover approved torque wrenches to achieve the required torque. Make sure the front mudflaps do not distort as you tighten the fixings.
  • If protective wax has been applied to the vehicle it must be thoroughly removed before starting this procedure.
NOTE
  • The vehicle must be clean, dry and at workshop temperature. Vehicles moved into the workshop from cold or wet conditions should be dried and left to stand for a minimum of 2 hours.

Torque Wrench/Screw Driver (range up to 5Nm). Recommended GE5.3: 1/4 dr torque screwdriver for 56 - 451 N/cm (0.56 - 4.5 Nm)

Fitting Instruction
NOTE
  • This procedure contains illustrations for left side of vehicle, right side is similar. Repeat steps for right side.
  • These instructions show the installation of the standard mudflaps. Classic mudflaps are installed exactly the same way.

WARNING
  • Make sure that the vehicle is stable before completing any work.
  • If a suitable 2 pillar lift is not available then refer to the wheel changing section of the owner's handbook.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 pillar lift.

CAUTION
  • The wheel and tire assembly will be heavy.
  • The locking wheel nuts can be removed and installed using the special adapter only, provided in the tool kit.
  • Using power tools may result in damage to the wheel nuts. Make sure the wheel nuts are removed and installed using hand tools only.

Remove rear wheel.

  • Remove x5 wheel nuts.
  • Remove the wheel and tire.

Remove x5 clips on rear wheel arch liner. Then move aside to gain access behind.

Move the bracket as illustrated to allow the heat shield to be accessed. On vehicles equipped with a diesel exhaust fluid tank, only complete step on the left side of the vehicle.

  1. Remove the fixing.
  2. Move the bracket away to allow access to the heat shield.

Release the heat shield from underneath the bracket. Move aside the heat shield to allow access to the arrowed locations. On vehicles equipped with a diesel exhaust fluid tank, only complete step on the left side of the vehicle.

CAUTION
  • If the supplied templates (B) is damaged, replacement template can be found in the links below. The template must be printed at 100% and not 'Print to page size'. Use the scale to inspect the size is correct when printed.

Use scissors to cut out the supplied templates (B). Follow the cut guide lines exactly.

CAUTION
  • If the template is positioned incorrectly then the holes will be drilled at the wrong locations.
  • The template must be positioned at the start of the radius edge of the rear bumper as illustrated.
NOTE
  • Clean the areas of the vehicle where the rear mudflaps will be installed to make sure there is no dirt or debris.

Locate and secure the template (B) as illustrated. Align the template with the edge of the bumper. Make sure that the edge of the template matches the bumper radius edge as arrowed.

NOTE
  • Take care to mark the hole positions accurately.

Mark x2 positions on the rear bumper. Use the template to identify where to mark the hole positions.

WARNING
  • Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

Drill a hole at the marked positions on the bumper.

  • 9mm drill bit

Remove the template and use a suitable file to remove any remaining plastic within the holes so they have clean edges.

CAUTION
  • Make sure that the rear mudflap is correctly positioned on the rear bumper.

Place the rear mudflap against the rear bumper.

  1. Insert the rear mudflap upper stud into the top hole.
  2. Flex the mudflap and insert the rear mudflap lower stud into the lower hole.

Use x2 lower holes in the rear mudflap to identify the location on the bumper where x2 lower holes will be drilled.

  1. Make sure there is no gap to the moulding surface.
  2. Mark x2 positions on the rear bumper.
  3. Remove the rear mudflap from the vehicle.

WARNING
  • Take extra care of the fuel tank.
  • Make sure to wear suitable personal protective equipment.

Drill holes at the x2 marked positions on the rear bumper.

  • 10mm drill bit

Clean the area as illustrated.

CAUTION
  • Make sure that the rear mudflap is correctly positioned on the rear bumper.

Install the rear mudflap onto the rear bumper.

  1. Insert the rear mudflap upper stud into the top hole.
  2. Flex the mudflap and insert the rear mudflap lower stud into the lower hole.

Install x2 fixings (E) and x4 washers (D) to the rear mudflap studs as illustrated.

  1. Using a suitable hand torque wrench, tighten the fixing to the required torque. Apply a paint mark (white/yellow) on the stud, fixing and washer when the correct torque is reached.
    1. Torque: 2.5Nm.

NOTE
  • Complete step 'ONLY' if installing rear classic mudflaps - VPLEP0388.

To avoid scratching the mudflaps on installation make sure masking tape is applied below the arrowed holes where the x2 fixings (F) will be installed in the next step.

NOTE
  • If installing rear classic mudflaps - VPLEP0388 then the mudflap will need to be pulled away from the fixing holes in order to insert the fixings (F) and washers (G). The rear classic mudflap needs to be flexed back considerably to allow the fixings (F) and washers (G) to be inserted.

Secure the rear mudflap as illustrated. Torque: 2.5Nm

  1. Install x2 washers (G) and x2 fixings (F).
  2. Install x2 washers (C) and x2 fixings (E).
  3. Remove any masking tape.

Inspect the alignment at the arrowed locations. Make sure there is no more than a 1mm gap between the rear mudflap and the rear bumper.

Move the heat shield back to the correct position.

  • On vehicles equipped with a diesel exhaust fluid tank, only complete step on the left side of the vehicle.

Install the bracket to secure the heat shield to the bumper. On vehicles equipped with a diesel exhaust fluid tank, only complete step on the left side of the vehicle.

  1. Move the bracket to the correct position.
  2. Install the fixing. Torque: 9Nm

NOTE
  • Make sure that the retaining clips are correctly installed.

Move the rear wheel arch liner back into position and install x5 clips.

WARNING
  • Apply a small amount of grease to the bore and spigot areas of the wheel before installation. Make sure the grease does not come into contact with the vehicles braking components and the wheel stud threads. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.

Install the rear wheel and tire. Install and tighten x5 fixings in the indicated sequence.

  • Torque
  • Stage 1: 4Nm
  • Stage 2: 70Nm
  • Stage 3: 140Nm

Lower vehicle on ramp and do a final inspection of the installed rear mudflaps to make sure they are secure.
